Popoola Omotolani was received by CDA Chairman Offin/Oreta, Otunba Ahmed Odebiyi and Chairman non-Indegene Chief Godwin in Offin on Tuesday 29 January, 2019.  In their separate remarks, the duo vows to give Hon. Popoola and her party highest vote as their members declare support for her. Hon. Ngige clarifies govt stand on minimum wage Published  26 January, 2019  Dr. Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment says the minimum wage of N27, 000 is standard for all workers, but the Federal Government will pay federal workers N30,000. The minister made this known in a statement signed by Mrs lliya Rhoda, Assistant Director, Press, of the ministry in Abuja on Saturday. According to the minister, President Muhammadu Buhari constituted a Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage in November 2017 to consider the issue and recommend a new national minimum wage. Court order leading to Onnoghen’s suspension is suspect, says Falana Published  26 January, 2019  A Lagos lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN) has said the Code of Conduct Tribunal’s order relied on by President Muhammadu Buhari to suspend the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen, is suspect. Justice Tanko Muhammad has been sworn in by the president as the Ag. CJN following charges of false assets declaration filed against Onnoghen. According to Falana, the exparte application relied on was filed on January 9 while the motion on notice of the substantive suit filed on January 11 with the name of the lawyer that argued the exparte motion not stated in the order. He also suggested that Onnoghen might have contributed to his own downfall by postponing indefinitely the meeting of the National Judicial Council, which could have deliberated on the matter and take an informed position. Removal of CJN may affect credibility of election – US Published  26 January, 2019  The United States Government has expressed worry over the decision of President Muhammadu Buhari to suspend the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen. The US Embassy in Nigeria said in a statement that the decision of the executive arm of government to suspend the head of another arm of government without recourse to the National Assembly was questionable. The US which had last week threatened to place a visa ban on all persons who manipulate the electoral process, questioned the timing of the suspension of the CJN. UPDATED: New CJN swears in members of election tribunals Published  26 January, 2019  Less than 24 hours after he was sworn-in as the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, the Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, on Saturday performed his first official duty when he swore-in chairmen and members of the election petition tribunals for the 2019 general selections. He was sworn in on Friday by President Muhammadu Buhari to replace the suspended CJN, Walter Onnoghen, who is facing charges of false assets declaration before the Code of Conduct Tribunal. Onnoghen was suspended based on an exparte order granted by the CCT, directing the president to so act. Out of 17 justices of the Supreme Court, only Justice Sidi Bage joined Muhammad at the event. TraderMoni is vote buying, says Transparency International Published  25th January, 2019  Transparency International Nigeria has said the TraderMoni scheme, a collateral-free loan initiative targeted at petty traders and artisans as part of the National Social Investment Programme of the Federal Government, is a form of voter inducement.
