NYSC gets Maj Gen as DG in 45 years

The National Youth Service Corps said on Friday that it is now headed by a Major General, Suleiman Kazaure, after its 45 years of establishment.
The NYSC said on Friday that Kazaure was among the 29 Brigadier Generals elevated by the Nigerian Army to the rank of a Major General in its promotion exercise on Monday.
Our correspondent learnt that Kazaure, who hails from Jigawa State, was back to the office on Friday as a Major General, after inspecting a guard of honour mounted by corps members at the NYSC Headquarters, Abuja.
The NYSC Director of Press and Public Relations, Mrs Adenike Adeyemi, said in a release that the DG’s administration, which began in April 2016, had improved on staff welfare and the security of corps members nationwide.
She said, “He is the first sitting Brigadier General to be promoted to the rank of a Major General in the history of the 45-year-old the scheme. The Director-General attributed his success at the military examination to the collective support of the entire workers of the NYSC scheme nationwide.
“The NYSC boss has been in various capacities in the Nigerian Army and distinguished himself as an excellent officer and a goal-getter. He assumed duty in April 2016 as the 17th Chief Executive Officer of the NYSC and has since improved staff welfare and security of corps members across the country.
“His administration also expanded the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme through the establishment of more skill centres including the recently donated SAED Centre in Gombe State.”

The resolution was made after the federal lawmakers adopted the report of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund. The committee’s chairman, Jibrin Barau, presented the report for consideration. The 10 new higher institutions approved by the Senate include one polytechnic to be located in the hometown of President Muhammadu Buhari, Daura in Katsina State.
